If you're looking to diversify your large ingot collection away from US issues, then this is certainly the ingot for you. |
RARE! Extremely limited issue. The issue that worried the Federal Reserve! |
||
Liberty Dollars were the brainchild of Bernard von NotHaus, who felt that the the US currency was being devalued by the Federal Reserve's issuance of money that was not backed by gold or silver. He thus created his own "currency", the Liberty Dollar and proceeded to issue it through NORFED. However, the Federal Reserve pounced. Von Nothaus was subsequently convicted of several offences. More importantly, the FR announced in August 2011 that ALL Liberty Dollars are subject to confiscation and tasked the US Secret Service with the task of finding and confiscating them. Who says that the days of precious metal confiscation are over! Be warned! This coin is one that was not impounded by the FR and is a relatively rare item. Of course, it would be illegal to import into the USA.
It remains a symbol of disenchantment with US fiat currency, contains a quarter of an ounce of 999 silver and was issued in 2006. |

CONTAINS 1 FULL TROY OUNCE OF SILVER! A vintage round, much sought-after in Europe! Issued to pay the costs of the famous Hoffman & Hoffman trial. |
||
When the US government defaulted on payment of silver certificates in silver bullion, Hoffman & Hoffman, (a law company), launched a court case against them. They lost the case and were left with huge costs, so they took the silver metal off the edges of the the huge number of silver certificates in their possession and melted it down, creating these stunning rounds in 1981. The obverse has a simple design of a unicorn leaping over the H&H logo, whilst the reverse states clearly that this is a one troy ounce round made in 1981. This round is made from a full 1 troy ounce (31.1 grammes) of .999 purity (fine) silver and is supplied in a pouch. Hard to find in Europe, these are elegant, vintage items. Potential buyers may be interested to know that on 5th February, 2017, John Stevens, a former employee of H&H in the early 1980s, wrote to me to tell me that this story is "pure bollocks". I am always grateful for any input from knowledgeable people such as John and any further comments can be sent to me using the e-mail address at the bottom of the page.
